Scenarios To Consider

The illustration shows the different ways a wisdom tooth can emerge, from growing normally to becoming impacted or developing at an odd angle.

While it may seem obvious whether a wisdom tooth needs to be removed in some cases, it’s important to consider possible issues like nerve damage, which may or may not occur.

Every case is different, so it’s best to get specialist advice when making the decision. If there’s enough space in your mouth and the tooth is growing properly, removal may not be necessary.

That said, wisdom teeth aren’t really needed and can cause problems as we get older. Our jawbone becomes less flexible over time, and around 80% of people will need their wisdom teeth removed before they turn 70.

Your consultant will take the time to review your medical history, do any necessary scans or x-rays, and look at your specific symptoms. All of this helps make a balanced decision, considering any other factors that might be at play.
